A hand tool consisting of a massive rectangular base, at the edges of which two vertical thin standards stand and support a horizontal filleted rotating beam. The beam has a thin hooked end, and pierces at its other end a rounded oval solid stone. A staple element in the traditional goldsmith's workshop, the spinning reel tool was a hand tool used by the goldsmith, much like a spinning wheel, to spin flat malleable rods of gold into thin threads and filaments, as an intermediary stage in the designing process.
