Spinola

Portrait of Ambrosio Spinola (1569-1630), after Peter Paul Rubens, Flemish School, 17th century. Spinola was the most important general of Albert and Isabella, who inherited the Southern Netherlands of Filips II in 1593. Spinola besieged Bergen op Zoom in 1622 but failed to conquer the city. He and his troops were eventually being chased away by the Dutch troops of prince Maurits.
