Being recognised as a World Heritage site provides the opportunity to raise the profile of the Mining Basin at both a national and an international level. In a region that was previously unheard of outside of France, the Mining Basin now has its place on the map. What’s more, the image being portrayed is a positive one, of an area with a rich heritage and a population of ambitious stakeholders capable of sustaining it.
