Sadberk Hanım Museum
İstanbul, Türkiye

Handmade burnished pitcher coated in
black slip. The pitcher has a long neck
and cutaway spout. The strap handle joins
the rim to the shoulder. The carinated
ovoid body rests on three feet. On either
side of the shoulder are horn shaped lugs
and at the front is a boss. Two crescent
shaped relief motifs extend from either
side of the boss across the shoulder to
join the base of the handle. The handle is
decorated with three flutes.
Small pitchers with similar forms and
decoration are among grave goods found
in the necropolises of Yortan and Babaköy
in northwestern Anatolia (see Kamil 1982,
pp. 71, 162, pl. X, fig. 52; Edgü 1983, p. 143,
A.379).
