Junkichi Mukai is a Western-style painter who was involved in the establishment of the Kohdo Art Association in 1945. Focusing on old folk houses since that time, he has created a large number of paintings on this subject. Mukai has in fact traveled to places all over Japan to capture in his paintings the dying tradition of old folk architecture. This work depicts a private residence in Higashi-Matsuyama, Saitama, illustrating – as the title suggests – a scenery in Musashino in the spring with soft brush strokes.
