Title: Squid Jag
Date Created: 1945-01-01/1965-12-31
Provenance: A jag or 'jig' is used to fish for squid. In South Australia, fishers often used jags to fish for Southern calamari that is plentiful in South Australia.. Squid fishing is a popular recreational pursuit from South Australia's jetties and wharves. The fisher casts their line into the water with jig attached, lets it sink to the bottom and adds an upward whip of the rod on the retrieve to make the lure danced in the water. Doing this replicates the actions of a prawn or wounded baitfish action alerting any squid in the area.
