Among the artifacts in the Museum's SR-71 "Blackbird" Gallery is a canopy from one of the aircraft produced at the Lockheed Skunk Works facility in California. The SR-71's airframe is made entirely of titanium alloy due to the extreme heat temperatures encountered by the aircraft traveling at over Mach 3, or 2,100 mph. Even by today's standards, the construction and capabilities of this aircraft are unmatched.
