The Life of St Alban was compiled and illustrated by Matthew Paris, monk and chronicler of St Albans Abbey. The volume contains texts and documents relating to the history of the abbey, including works on the life and veneration of its patron saint and copies of foundation charters purportedly issued by King Offa of Mercia.

F36r St Alban, being led to his martyrdom, saves pagans from drowning by his prayers. The miracle is witnessed by the soldier St Heraclius.
