This photograph shows the stone arch over St Ann's Well in Buxton. Buxton is famous for its mineral water, and the spring which now lies in the centre of the town is known to have been dedicated to St Anne by the 1520s. The stone arch in this photograph was replaced by a water fountain in the late 1800s.
St Ann's Well is one of the seven Wonders of the Peak described by the philosopher Thomas Hobbes in 1636.
