St Augustine's Church, Pendlebury

In Lowry's drawing, St Augustine's Church becomes a huge, imposing structure, towering above its surroundings. Lowry includes the small monument in front of the church commemorating those killed in an explosion in the Clifton Hall Colliery in 1885 but not a larger memorial, dedicated to the first vicar of St Augustine's, which stands closer to the foreground.
