Long Description: Statue of St. Barbara, St. Catherine and Pietà were originally adorning the chapel in Velika Nedelja castle owned by the Teutonic Order. The statues came into being in the early 15th century in the workshop that was developed on the construction site of Ptujska Gora pilgrimage church. These superb masterpieces were probably made for the presbytery of Ptujska Gora church, its building and furnishings being financed by the most prominent nobility of Styria. The master that most probably came to Ptujska Gora from Silesia or Bohemia by the intervention of the above-mentioned nobility, formed graceful and aristocratic facial features, delicate hands and soft drapes of garments. The statues executed in the International Gothic style that was also named beautiful or soft style, are now ranked among the most exellent European Gothic sculptures. (dr. Polona Vidmar)
