A work of great quality, in which the artist skilfully harnessed his knowledge of El Greco’s compositions to the profound hallmark of Caravaggio’s Naturalism. The positioning of the figure is reminiscent of those created by El Greco, but they are different in style: earthy colours, contrasting light, the strongly defined muscularity of the saint’s body and the painstaking depiction of the objects in the foreground.
