This contorted, almost Cubist view of the Lorenzkirche contrasts with Neubauer's precise architectural drawings. It shows his close relations with Expressionism, and especially the works of Vincent van Gogh. The architect, who also worked as a self-taught artist, preferred to school himself on the examples of classic Modernism. An expert mimic of various styles, he possessed an extensive artistic toolbox that he could draw upon as needed.
