St Peter and Paul Church in Vilnius

National Museum of Lithuania

National Museum of Lithuania
Vilnius, Lithuania

The square in front of the Church of Sts Peter and Paul was a place of entertainment, amusement and strolling for the townspeople in the 19th century. Orchestras played here, dances were held here, and during the Petrine Feast, fair participants traded here. In Joseph Ozemblovsky's lithograph, the square is built up with various wooden amusement devices such as swings and slides, which were usually used exclusively by Tsarist officials and their family members. Vilnius, Lithuania, 1834.
