St Peter Nolasco was the founder of the Royal, Celestial and Military Order of Our Lady of Mercy and the Redemption of the Captives, in Barcelona in 1218. The mission of the Order was rto ransom the Christian captives, namly along the frontier with al-Andalus. He is represented holding the flag he made, with an image of the Virgin, simb
