St Peter, three-quarter length, holding the keys to heaven in his right hand and the Gospel. This is one of the few pages in the album to have a direct connection with other works by Minardi: it is, in fact, the definitive study in charcoal for the drapery. The severe and imposing figure of the saint appears to have drawn inspiration – in its drapery at least – from Carlo Maratta’s St Matthew (Palazzo Barbarini). Initialled and dated, bottom left: TM inv. 1807.
