In the mid-1950s,at the height of the cold war era, a Walt Disney television series catapulted the 19th century folk hero and frontiersman, Davy Crockett, to national fame once again. Crockett is best known for his bravery and service as a representative of the state of Tennesee. He died at the famous battle of the Alamo at the age of 49. With the popularity of Disney's television series came hundreds of spin-off promotional artifacts, such as coonskin hats and toy rifles. The series lived on for several decades and the paraphernalia remained fixed in popular culture.
