Stage coaches with castle

A Swiss castle with high towers forms a majestic backdrop to the ladies' stroll in the carriage driven by an elegant coachman. Behind them, a farmer with a pitchfork, a rare presence in the artist's paintings, evokes life in the fields beyond the village, while on the road that runs alongside the houses on the right, a large movement of earth heralds the rapid passage of the coach. The work, all set chromatically on lands and greens, declined in a refined variety of tonal shades, admirably highlights the intensely poetic and fabulous dimension in which the memory of the transalpine childhood is relived.
