Stage Machinery

The Alexandra Palace Theatre was built at the height of Victorian stage craft. Its wooden stage machinery for producing elaborate special effects remains in situ, a rare survivor that has not been updated since installation in1875. The sub-stage contains weights and pulleys for moving scenery and sets through the stage cuts, as well as star traps and coffin traps for dramatic entrances and exits.
