This badge for 'the war worn horse' formed part of a fundraising campaign aimed at alleviating the suffering of the more than 120,000 Australian horses sent overseas for military purposes during the First World War.
They suffered wounds, thirst, hunger and weariness almost beyond endurance but never failed. They did not come home. We will never forget them.
Inscription on the Desert Mounted Corps memorial, Sydney. Unveiled by Lady Chauvel on Anzac Day 1950.
