Princess Alexandra (1844–1925) was the daughter of King Christian IX of Denmark and married the Prince of Wales in 1863. She is depicted wearing the cap and gown of a Doctor of Music from the Royal University of Ireland, a degree conferred on her on 10 April 1885 during a state visit to Ireland. She was an art collector, keen amateur photographer and founded Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Corps.
