This statuette is partly covered with gold leaf, has silver inlays and dates to 800-600 B.C.E. It represents the god Anubis in his appearance as a man with the head of a canine. He wears the so called “Shendit”-apron. The tripartite wig covers the chest with the wide collar almost completely. Anubis is the god who guarantees the regeneration of the deceased in the netherworld, the Osirian domain. Because the statuette was bought 1869 from the merchant G. Hartmann in Dresden its exact provenance is unknown. However, an origin in the Memphite area is probable, where a large animal necropolis for canines, the Anubeion, and similar objects were found.
