This steam truck was owned by Cyril Cadwallader. He rescued it from a junk yard in 1960 and restored it to working condition. It was made by the Manns Patent Steam Cart and Wagon Company in about 1914, and was owned by the Brisbane City Council where it was used as a tar truck for road building. It was covered in tar, and therefore well preserved and not rusty. It was used to advertise his sand and gravel business and promote his slogan of "Sudden Service". The slogan happened when someone rang for a load of gravel which he had on the truck due to a cancelled order and then diverted to the new order and delivered within minutes. The customer said, "Wow, that was sudden!" . It was converted to a bus and took it to the Warana parades down Queen St a few times. My brother & I rode on it oiling the moving parts as we went along.
