This stele is inscribed with the Universal Gateway Chapter of the Lotus Sutra. On the top of the stele, above the engraved text, there are seven images including the Buddha in the center, followed by pairs of attending Bodhisattvas, disciples, and warriors. The bottom of the stele is sculpted with a pair of lions and censors. The text of the Universal Gateway Chapter is engraved on all four sides of the stele. The tradition of engraving Buddhist texts on stone dates back to the fifth century and is dedicated to the protection of the Dharma during the time of the Dharma-Ending Age.
