Stellarator Coil Wendelstein 7-AS

This stellarator coil was used in the Wendelstein 7-AS research reactor. In fusion reactors, coils arranged in rings produce strong magnetic fields. These fields confine the extremely hot, electrically charged gas and prevent the gas from coming into contact with the walls and cooling down.
