Step by Step

Step by step is a work by the Azerbaijani artist Faig Ahmed (Sumqayit, Azerbaijan, 1982). In it, Ahmed creates, thanks to the design and shading, a staircase that gives the impression of going downwards and inwards. For the textile artist, the classical Azerbaijani rug is a means of expression. In his work, traditional rug designs are transformed into pixels. In the delicate line that separates anthropology, science and visual experimentation, Ahmed lends a contemporary voice to an ancient craft. Genetic research, quantum physics, Sufism and Azeri identity fuel his works, giving rise to tactile meeting places of past and present, of chaos and calm.
