Temporary programs in our city and heterogeneous desires of diverse people demand more accessible and reconfigurable construction methods to support the culture of dynamic placemaking. Stick, Snap, Stack is a craft-based alternative construction system to offer such a resilient construction framework. Inspired by the traditional wood joinery, the system integrates the simplicity of ‘stacking’ with a ‘snapping’- induced interlocking system for the unique part-to-whole mechanism. The system allows people to build variable, selfsupporting structures, minimizing the need for skilled labor. It also allows easy disassembly at the end of the program’s life. The prototype demonstrates the reconfigurability of the stacking system as a mode of broad sustainability of our built environment.
