Still banks have been popular since the middle of the 19th century. Made of tin, cast iron, ceramic, plastic, vinyl, and other materials, banks encouraged children to save their coin. Banks come in all shapes and sizes, virtually guaranteeing that some form will please a any particular child enough to park his penny, thus fulfilling Benjamin Franklin's old adage: "A Penny saved is a earned."
