Fruits in a symmetrical arrangement in the center of a table on a white cloth. The combination of two pears, a round fruit, and a banana at the center of the combination look like a smiling face. Description from appraisal: "Citing the ordinary, rather than grandiose, this work of art shows an arrangement of fruit around a glass vase holding flowers, centered on a round white cloth which is draped over a red covered table. The colors are bold, and highlight the identity of each piece of fruit in their environment. The table and background are painted in strong colors, and with much gesture or movement. This dynamic aspect coupled with the sensitivity of line and hint of shadow are inspired by the spirituality for which Hartley's work is known. The focus of the subject is the center point of the picture, and the perspective in the whole piece is foreshortened, thus bringing the artist's expression closer for greater impact on the viewer."
