Walter Scott (1851-1925) designed watch cases and jewellery and taught at the School of Art in Coventry.
He painted landscapes in Gloucestershire, Wales and the Lake District, as well
as in Warwickshire. This view of Stoke Heath near Coventry depicts a romantic
view of tumbling clouds and open heathland. Stoke Heath originally had a large number of elm trees
some of which could still be seen on Heath Crescent and Common Way when houses
were built on the area. Sadly the trees were destroyed by Dutch Elm disease in
the 1970s.
