Stoke Park was laid out as a landscape park surrounding a country house in circa 1750. It was one of Lancelot 'Capability' Brown's first commissions. The park was modified by Nathaniel Richmond in the late 1760s and Humphry Repton. A golf course was laid out on the site in 1908.
