Formerly a gasworks, torpedo factory and submarine base, Sub Base Platypus is an emerging public domain on the foreshore of North Sydney, homeland of the Cammeraygal People. The Harbour Trust envisions Sub Base Platypus as community hub where historic spaces are revealed, reimagined and activated by a range of cultural, recreational and commercial uses.

Note underneath photograph: Stokers and labourers stand outside the Inclined Retort House at Neutral Bay at the doorway which admitted the tramway for transporting coke after it left the retorts. Original lent by Bob Wallace.
