Velvet fabric based on green background warps and wefts combined in a double taffeta weave. The green pile warp has been patterned by hot pressing the pile with engraved wooden cylinders. The fabric is composed of four fragments.
The pattern is based on a rhomboid trellis pattern composed of Savoy knots whose points of tangency are highlighted with a lozenge design similar to a metal plate decorated with stylized flowers. The knots are punched to create a metallic effect. The centre of the trellis is occupied by a stemmed flower with severed-edged leaves.
Stamping techniques were widely used at the end of the 16th century as they were cheaper than traditional decorative processes. The Savoy knot may indicate that the pattern was originally a heraldic design .
