"Stolperstein" by the artist Gunter Demnig in front of Max Liebermann Haus commemorating Martha Liebermann's fate. When, on March 5, 1943, the police appeared at her door to pick her up for deportation to Theresienstadt, Martha Liebermann took an overdose Veronal and died at the Jewish Hospital on March 10th. (A stolperstein, literally "stumbling stone", metaphorically a "stumbling block" or a stone to "stumble upon", plural stolpersteine) is a cobblestone-size (10 by 10 centimetres (3.9 in × 3.9 in)) concrete cube bearing a brass plate inscribed with the name and life dates of victims of Nazi extermination or persecution.)
