Stomachers adorned the low V-shaped necklines of the ladies gown, open in front. They were preciously outfitted as shown by this narrow, tapered stomacher with a spatulate base and trimmed lashing. It depicts an ascending floral vine with different flowers and leaves in colourful silk thread upon a silvery background. The embroidery is framed by a ribbon appliqué that frames the purely decorative lacing over the embroidery. The spatulate base and the lashings are also embroidered. The posterior of this stomacher is covered in soft green silk taffeta. Whalebone stays are drawn closely together in the double-folded linen lining and form the rigid substructure for the embroidery carried out upon silk. The stomacher would be pinned and concealed under the gown neckline at the small lashes attached to sides of the linen lining.
