Stone ball is found in huge number with different sizes and variations. Along with cleaver and faceted stone balls (polyhedric), stone ball becomes important for Sangiran early man. However, there is still a debate on the existence of this stone tool. Some argue that stone ball is formed naturally as a result of spheroidal weathering, while some state that it is artificially made for purposes. It can be seen from the processing characteristic in the form of retouchments and use wear marks like small scratch on its surface showing usage. It is interpreted that the stone balls are used as throwing tools during their hunting by the help of rope.
