Stone Bowl

Medium sized stone bowl, manufactured from a white sandstone or quartzite. Sides are pecked and smoothed. Central depression is round and gradual, interior of depression shows some circular grinding marks. Rim is about 2 cm thick. Base has some excavation damage and cracks. This stone bowl was recovered from a deep, adobe pithouse located in a habitation area of the Pueblo Grande site. Pueblo Grande was a large village located at the headgates of a major canal system. Occupied as early as AD 500, the site reached its greatest extent during the Classic Period. Museum Accession: 1996.17
