This polished stone dagger with tang is the first of its kind discovered so far in Jeju-do as a burial good at a pit tomb. The most representative relics of the Bronze Age, the polished stone daggers are largely divided into the type of its tang whether it has a hilt or not. The daggers of the first category are marked by the handle attached with the body and those of the second by a tang which extends into a wooden handle. The stone dagger is attached a wooden handle on its tang so that is more practical. The stone dagger with tang such as the one shown here have been discovered in the southwestern part of the Korean Peninsula. It features a tang with grooves at both ends.Experts believe that the grooves were used to fasten the tang with the handle. This types of dagger have been rarely found in Jeju-do while similar artifacts have been excavated in the region such as Yeongsan river and Boseong river in Jeollanam-do. This dagger is regarded as an important source of knowledge on the trade of the prehistoric period.
