Stone Kneeling Human Figure

The stone kneeling human figure has the hair on top parted in the middle and trimmed short, and two long pigtails behind reaching the waist. The figure is naked, barefooted, their hands tied behind the back, kneeling on the ground, and sitting on their heels. Moreover, the figure has flat chest, round shoulder, and hollowed earlobes, bending forward slightly with scared facial expression, as well as the eyes, mouth and hair were carved by intaglio technology and some parts were painted. Due to weathering of the stone, it produced lots of cracks from the neck to waist, and on the hypogastrium and back. Archaeologists have unearthed twelve stone sculptures of kneeling humans in the Jinsha site, and they have similar shape, strange hairstyle, and tied hands behind their back, indicating particular identity and status. The kind of figure has also been found in the Sanxingdui site and Fangchijie site of Chengdu. The stone sculptures of kneeling humans of Jinsha were all found in the offering site, some buried together with stone snakes, some on the jade zhang or in front of stone tiger, as well as others buried with stone bi disks, bronze wares, or potteries. This indicates the stone figures were particularly used as offerings for the ceremony.
