Stone of Saint-Ambroix

Anonymous2nd century

Musée Bertrand
Châteauroux, France

This stone is comprised of two faces. The main alcove finely decorated with pearls, leaves and ribbons features a figure holding a cane with a pommel or perhaps a long pipette for taking wine from a barrel. The side shows a figure holding a jug and bowl. Thus a master and his servant were often depicted in this way.
