One of the two major medieval Buddhist temples in Jeju, the other being Beophwasa, Sujeongsa was established in the Goryeo period and continued to be prosperous until the following Joseon period during which it once hired about 130 servants. Relics discovered at the temple site include fragments of pagodas made with black clay slate, otherwise clay slate stone rarely found in the island. In the middle of core stone a door(門) was carved as a chinese character and
two images of Vajrapani(In-Wang Statue), a Buddhist guardian deity were carved with thin lines on both sides of the stone. Also, other smaller pagoda fragments were excavated with the core stone. It is considered that it contained Sanskrit inscriptions among them even though most part were damaged.
