The pastoral world, as metaphor of free nature, music, entertainment and dance inspired many of the writers and painters of Rococo. The pastoral life was also a theme for the entertainment of high society and such motifs are to be found in the relief cartouches on the body of the stove. In two of the cartouches ladies and gentlemen walk through nature with shepherd’s crooks in their hands, and in a third idyllic scene there is music-making beneath the trees. The stove is concluded by a sculpturally executed figure of a lady shepherdess with lamb in her arms. The stove was in use in Mirkovec Castle.
