Saxon

English Heritage

English Heritage
United Kingdom

A saxon, silver strap end with a stylised animal head terminal and a lightly incised pattern on the plate. Two dome-head rivets survive in the split end. The ears on the animal have lunate incisions. It is possible to see a kite-shaped leaf growing up the centre of the plate. Probably dating to the 9th or 10th century.
