A crowd gathers in the aftermath of a traffic accident at Venice and Lincoln Boulevards. A Pacific Electric street car collided with an army truck. The following text accompanied a similar photo in the March 24, 1942, Evening Outlook newspaper: "Seared wrecks of a Pacific Electric limited and an army truck are pictured at Lincoln and Venice Boulevards following a collision last night in which 26 soldiers and civilians were injured, one of them fatally. The truck swept away the base of the power pole in the left center. In the left foreground is a private automobile also involved in the crash. Quick action by gasoline service station attendants nearby and passersby in fighting the flames and rescuing the soldiers probably prevented further loss of life. \Blame for the mishap has not yet been placed. An inquest is to be conducted."
