Addressed to Inspector Nicolson of the police department in Melbourne, this letter includes a map of a cave where the Kelly Gang may have hidden. The caves location was described as being between Stringy Bark Creek and Euroa on the Blue ranges. Although there is no hard evidence to suggest that the Kellys actually did seek refuge in this cave, it is a possibility. The cave was located close to Stringy Bark Creek, where exactly eight days after this letter was sent, the murders of Constables Scanlon, Lonigan and Sergeant Kennedy occurred; and two months later, a bank was robbed in Euroa by the gang.
