Striped Shoulder Blanket

Royal Ontario Museum

Royal Ontario Museum
Toronto, Canada

This appears to have been worn in two pieces seamed together at the centre but closer examination reveals that the seam is only simulated and the piece is actually made in one width. Earlier serapes from this area were made on a narrow loom and even after wide ones were introduced custom still decreed that the design must break at the centre as it always had.
