Officers at the Strother Army Air Field dined on plates from the Sterling China Company during World War II. The Kansas base was home to the United States Army Air Forces Central Flying Training Command. Reporter Ruby Winona Boory Diehl donated one of the plates to the Kansas Museum of History in 1967. Diehl, a legislative reporter for the Associated Press, was the first woman in the capital press corps.
Like other U.S. states and regions across the globe, Kansans have served and died in war. The Kansas Museum of History aims to remember them through what they left behind. To see more from our collection please visit: https://www.kshs.org/kansapedia/wars/14569
