António Soares was born in Lisbon in 1894 and died in 1978. He lived in a time when naturalism was still widely accepted artistic movement and appreciated in Portugal, that modernist aesthetic proposals of Amadeo Sousa Cardoso, Santa Rita, Eduardo Viana and Almada Negreiros tried to impose. Contemporary of Sá Carneiro and Fernando Pessoa, also accompanied the change felt in the literary field. Without any academic training, was as an illustrator that he began his artistic career. Devoted himself generally to Graphic Arts, often working for magazines like Magazine Bertrand and ABC, drawing and painting for book covers, posters and ads, printing a modern taste on his works and rivaling in this field with other artists that in his time had identicalcourse. António Soares also worked as an architect, decorator and scenographer for Cinema and Theater.
