(See what is indicated for the Cain sculpture).

As we previously indicated, the religious-philosophical theme, in its moral aspects, interested Gargallo during the time of his training. Thus the virtues and capital sins, the ethical implications of the figure of the prophet (of whom he made drawings from 1904, a first sculptural version in 1906-11 - the Saint John the Baptist of the Hospital of the Holy Cross and Saint Paul of Barcelona) and a study for the head in 1926, concluding the final sculpture almost thirty years after those first drawings), the archetype of Cain (which stars in several drawings and a relief, the latter also cataloged here), the works of mercy (although in this case it could have been very subject to the guidelines of the architect Domènech i Montaner) and, finally, the very interesting series of inks on a subject as transcendent as The Last Judgment, all of them integrated today into the collections of the Pablo Gargallo Museum.
