In 1960 ventriloquist and puppeteer Shari Lewis replaced NBC's Hoody Dowdy show on Saturday morning television. She brought along her band of characters: little Lamb Chop, Hush Puppy, and Charlie Horse. Hush Puppy affected a Southern accent and a shy personality. Lewis continued in television into the 1990s when she hosted two series for children on PBS. When Lewis died in 1998, her daughter continued on with the puppets.Lewis's forty years of entertaining and teaching children generated a brisk business in toys and products related to her loveable characters.
